Welcome to Cabbynet

(a work in progress)

This site has been constructed as a tribute and dedication to my dogs, and their friends, and for my own entertainment.

The 'Photo Album' is a slideshow that attempts to depict the dogs, The Growler Gang, and the places where we walk, over the last twenty or so years. It's extensive, so give it time to load! The pictures have captions that can be accessed via the control  panel at the top of the page. The UP arrow returns you here.

The 'Tribute Movie' is a flash presentation with music by Enya. I am eternally grateful to Nicky who took all the photographs from which the movie has been compiled.

There's fun stuff here too, in 'Odds & Sods', and useful, interesting and some beautiful items in 'Links'.

The above picture is of Hankley Common, owned by the Ministry of Defence. It is used by the military for training purposes and is also much enjoyed by the general public. During the second World War, in preparations for D-Day, the Atlantic Wall was constructed to test and practise techniques to breach German anti-tank defences. It is also occasionally used today for the settings of films which, as you can imagine, cause a surge of interest and locals flock to view the proceedings. Hankley also achieved notoriety in 1942 as the setting for a murder dubbed The Wigwam Murder.

Other areas we walk: Ludshott and Bramshott Commons (both of WWII interest), Waggoners Wells, Chapel Common and Liss Forest. Many of these places are designated as Sites of Special Scientific Interest and this status protects the natural habitat of a vast variety of both fauna and flora.

If you're interested in the Wigwam Murder or the Hankley and Ludshott WWII references check out 'Links'.
